Canellopoulos Museum
28-29 September, at 11.00-15.00
For the 2024 European Heritage Days the CAMU has chosen to celebrate mastery in arts. We invite artists and researchers who have worked with the museum collections to present crafts and techniques of the past and to explain how they discovered their secrets. The artists will speak about the qualities and demands of each material and explain how one can master their knowledge through experience, practice and errors.
Working in various parts of the museum, the artists will set up a fair, in which visitors can participate by watching them, talking with them and by exploring selected tools and techniques under their guidance.
Workshops and artists/researchers:
A. Woodworking
Andreas Sampatakos (senior panel paintings conservator and researcher, PhD NTUA, member of the Architectural Conservation Laboratory ACL, University of West Attica).
B. Metalworking
Akis Goumas (metalsmith and researcher of ancient metalworking techniques)
C. Marble working
Elias Makos (artist, graduate of the School of Marble Carving at the island of Tenos – PVSFAPT, and student of the Athens School of Fine Art).
Free admission
The presentations will be in Greek; an English translator will facilitate non-Greek-speaking visitors to navigate in the workshops.
